Trevor Lacey broke an Alabama High School regional scoring record today by scoring 44 points in a win over East Lawrence 84-40.
Lacey scored 28 points in the 2nd half, while Butler was up by more than 29 deep into the 4th quarter.
There was some controversy after the game as East Lawrence’s coach wasn’t real thrilled about Butler leaving Lacey in the game.

“I thought it was tasteless,” said East Lawrence’s Coach Dale Walker. “You are up 30 or 40 (points) and you have got young men trying to play hard and compete. I don’t have anything to do with their school closing down.”

Butler’s Coach Jack Doss cited the possibility of the school closing at the end of the year as the reason to try and break the record.
[QUOTE]
“We came out and were trying to set some records cause school is closing down,” said Doss after his No. 1 Rebels improved to 29-2, “and I probably put too much pressure on them at the start of the game.”

Trevor Lacey sure didn’t try and hide the fact that his team was trying to break records and run up the score on East Lawrence.
[QUOTE]
“Coach was preaching to me this whole week that the record was 39 and to go out and break the record,” said Lacey, who broke Joe Watson’s 1998 record set at Central-Hayneville. “We tried to break the team record — it’s 106. But we came out slow so we weren’t able to accomplish that.”
