Knight: Team Expectations High

For Brandon Knight, high expectations are a norm. Were talking about a young man who made his last B in 2nd grade.

“The first time I made all A’s, my dad told me he didn’t want to see any more ‘B’s.,” said Knight. He ended High School with a GPA that I didn’t even know was possible, a 4.3.

Not only does Brandon bring an incredible amount of talent to Kentucky, but he also brings over 20 hours of college credit and it’s been reported that he could graduate in two years.

Add in not one, but two Gatorade National Player of the Year, joining the likes of some guy named LeBron James, along with two other players, to have won the award twice.

For the Cats, Knight is more then just another teammate, he’s a wealth of useful information.

When Kentucky freshman swingman Stacey Poole had a question about homework from a communications class, he knew exactly where to go.

Not to a tutor. To Brandon Knight.

When Eloy Vargas, UK’s transfer big man, feels homesick for his native Dominican Republic and wants to talk Spanish with someone, he knows exactly where to go.

Not to another Kentucky student from Latin America. To Brandon Knight.

So when Kentucky’s super Freshman said that he “thinks the team can equal or go beyond the accomplishments of last year’s squad,” how can you not help but believe it?

“Each team is different and each team has a certain thing that they can do best,” he said. “There are a lot of teams that come in and do what they are supposed to do, so we are really just focusing on our season and not really worried about what last year’s team did. They are a different set of guys and we are a new set of guys and we all know what our goals are.”

That mission begins in earnest on November 1, when the Cats take on Pikeville in Lexington.
