Kentucky’s Road Ahead

Kentucky hits the road tonight to take on the University of Mississippi (13-5, 1-4 SEC). The Wildcats are at the beginning of a tough four game schedule, including road games at Mississippi, at Florida and at Vanderbilt.

Squeezed in between the Florida and Vanderbilt game is the coming home party of Bruce Pearl as he’s released from Tennessee self-imposed sanctions for the Tennessee at Kentucky game. Think that one was planned?

The young Cats have won four of their last five, with three of those four at home and the lone road win coming at the hands of the Gamecocks. These next four will define the SEC season for the Big Blue and most likely determine their chances to win another SEC Regular season title.

Win all four and the Cats are in great shape down the stretch as they end the season with four of six games at home with the two road games being at Arkansas on February 23 and then they close the season at Tennessee on March 6th.

Tonight’s game should be the easiest of the four. Vanderbilt and Florida both are ranked and winning on the road at either place is always a challenge for the Cats. Both games concern me and could end up being a loss for UK.

Last year it was the heroics of John Wall’s last second blocked shot, at Vandy, that secured the win and playing on that floor is always just plain weird.

For Florida, Kentucky, like for every other team, is their super bowl of the season in the SEC. The Cats will most likely see a sold out arena with some smattering of Kentucky blue, but the chomp-chomp will be prevalent when UK shows up for this critical match up.

This four game stretch will test if the Cats have the toughness Calipari is looking for from the men in blue.

Go Cats!!!
