A great running back has always been a key to any great college football team, and Louisville Central has the most sought after back in the state.
Anthony “Ace” Wales blew up Kentucky High School Football last year as he rushed 297 times for 2,994 yards and 37 TDs while leading Central to a 4A State Championship.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]Ace has colleges calling and sending letters everyday and they range from UCLA, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Central Florida.
He also had visitors today from Marshall, Illinois, Western Kentucky, and Kentucky.
I spoke to Ace today as he was coming home from track practice and we talked about his recruitment and what he is looking for in a school.
When I asked him who was recruiting him the hardest, he said very quickly, “Kentucky is recruiting me the hardest.” “They contact me as often as they can.”
Assistant Head Coach David Turner visited Ace today to check how things were going.
Ace said he speaks to former Central and current Kentucky linebacker Ridge Wilson often about the program.
Former Louisville QB and current Offensive Coordinator at Illinois Jeff Brohm also visited Ace today and you could tell he was excited that he made the trip to see him.
Ace said that it was Marshall’s first time visiting and the second time WKU had seen how he was doing.
I asked Ace about the positives he can bring to a team and he specifically spoke about special teams. He said, “I really like the return game, but teams started kicking away from me early in the season and I didn’t return as many kicks as I would have liked to.”
He said Louisville specifically said they would like for him to start off on special teams and return kicks.
Wales also talked about something he needs to work on. “I am really working on my pass blocking and learning how to pick up linebackers on blitzes.” ” I plan on working hard on that this summer.”
Since Ace is going into his senior season, I asked him if he had an early list of schools that he would consider his favorites. I asked for 5, but he gave me 6.
“The schools I would put as my favorites are Louisville, Stanford, Central Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, and Notre Dame” said Wales. He mentioned the Illini and Irish together because he said it would be hard to pick between the two if he was giving a top 5.
Ace said he wants to major in English, because he wants to be a teacher.
Ace said, “I love kids so being a high school teacher and a coach would be great.” He also said with that being his chosen field that it really wouldn’t matter which school he picked because they all have education as a major.
Ace will also have a busy summer as he kicks it off at the Nike Spark Combine at Ohio State University on May 22nd.
Wales plans on taking his visits after the season, and mentioned taking official and unofficial visits to the schools he is interested in most.
Kentucky will be in a fight for Anthony “Ace” Wales, and it sounds like Illinois, Central Florida, and Louisville are up for the challenge.
