For some, today’s game is the best game of the year. A time when husbands and wives who sit on the opposite side of the fence can playfully talk smack and earn bragging rights when their team wins. A game that allows family members to fill a house up with opposite colors as they rant and rave why their color is better. For others, it’s a game filled with bitterness and hatred. Red hates Blue. Blue hates Red.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
The Kentucky vs. Louisville rivalry game tips at 12:00pm today and there will be 2 hours of intense basketball followed by 1 year of bragging rights for some fans. The questions is, will it be a good year for Big Blue Nation or a bad year? Those that playfully disagree with Little Brother hope that they’ll have the upper hand and bragging rights for the year. Those in Big Blue Nation that hate Little Brother can’t stand the thought of a loss and would rather lose in an NCAA tournament game.
Is it hatred, dislike or just the normal feelings that come from a great rivalry? Josh Harrellson has a few thoughts.
“I came here and the first time we were about to play Louisville and everybody was like I hate Louisville and I was like why, I don’t really hate them,” says UK’s starting center.
“I want to beat them of course. Since that year and last year I just don’t like them anymore. Especially since last year.”
“People have their own opinions and they start to wear off on you. Right now I don’t like Duke anymore, and I don’t like UNC and I don’t like Louisville. Things change. I’ve never really not liked them, but now I don’t.”
Coach Calipari and Rick Pitino? I’m guessing there is no love lost there even though the coaches downplay the dislike that undoubtedly happens on both sides of the court.
But in the end…there’s only one thing that matters.
Each fan, player and coach has their own take on this game and each of them will see it with their own eyes. Everyone will have their own feelings about the other side when the outcome is decided. That’s what makes it such a great game. That’s what makes “The Battle of the Bluegrass” one of the greatest rivalry games there are. So whatever side of the fence your on, just make sure you have fun. Besides, that’s what it’s all about right?
GO BIG BLUE!
