Kentucky Wins The Age Battle. For Now

Last night’s win against Notre Dame proved that the Wildcats could rebound from a tough loss and Terrence Jones proved that he could stay away before game time. But last night’s win proved so much more. Against a Notre Dame team that starts 5 seniors, the young Kentucky Wildcats showed that their inexperience didn’t mean a thing. The freshman for Kentucky stepped up and played well helping to earn the victory.

John Calipari has received national criticism for recruiting players who are considered “one and done’s” since the NBA placed an age limit on those entering the NBA draft and the requirement to be out of high school for one year. The players association are trying to change that rule and not in the way that you might think.

“We want to go back to the way it was,” a source from the NBA Players Association said. “The players have always been philosophically opposed to it. The vast majority of players feel a player should have the right to make a living. If he has the talent and wants to make money to help his family, he should have that right. It’s just a matter of principle.”

Most people would have guessed that the NBA wants to increase the current rules. Perhaps increase the age limit to 20 and require the draft entrant to be removed from high school for 2 years. In this case, the Players association is pushing for just the opposite, remove the rule. If there was a rule change, it would have the same impact on “one and done’s” in college.

For now though, the rules are what the are and Coach Cal deals with young, inexperienced players. And for now, the Kentucky Wildcats are showing that experience doesn’t matter. Terrence Jones had a huge night against Notre Dame scoring 27 points and 17 rebounds. Brandon Knight led the team as well as he has all year. And most impressively, the Wildcats defense held the high scoring Fighting Irish to 58 points when they have averaged 81 point so far this year.

Our young Wildcats looked good and pulled out a great win. Next up for the freshman: Indiana.
