Kentucky Wildcats vs. LSU Tigers: First Half Recap

The Kentucky Wildcats traveled to Baton Rouge, La. to take on the Bayou Tiger’s of LSU today. Starting five: Teague, Lamb, Jones, Kidd-Gilchrist, and Davis.

The game started with 5 missed shots between the two teams before Doron Lamb hit from 3.

Kentucky’s defense troubled LSU from the get-go. When the Tigers would drive there was smothering help and any jumpers were contested.

Kentucky began shooting well though, getting their first 10 points of jumpers.

LSU’s big man, Jordan Hamilton committed two early fouls and had to go to the bench, so Kentucky took advantage, driving and drawing fouls. UK struggled to convert at the free throw line though, going 1 for 7 early.

Anthony Davis went to the line 3 times in the first 10 minutes and each time was greeted by chants of “uni-brow” and “you’re ugly”…classy.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was particularly frustrating for LSU with his defense. He turned in 5 rebounds for the half, but did not score

Darius Miller continued his with his hot hand, shooting 4 of 6 for 10 points, to lead the Cats along with Terrence Jones.

Terrence Jones had a nice half, being active on offense and D, driving the lane with strength and getting rebounds and steals on the other end. He had 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block, and 2 steals in the half.

Anthony Davis went down fighting for a rebound with about five and half minutes to go in the half. He hit his head on an LSU player’s knee and had to sit down, holding his shoulder. LSU tried to take advantage, driving the lane immediately. They had some success, though Kyle Wiltjer gave UK some quality minutes.

LSU was able to pull within one point before Marquis Teague hit the first three I’ve been happy to see him take all year.

Davis came back in and immediately blocked a shot, he is instant impact defined.

Kentucky took off from here to go on a 10-2 run and close out the half up, 35-26.
