Kentucky Wildcats 63 – Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 28
It wasn’t a great defensive performance and the second half seemed to lack intensity. Good thing the Wildcats won the game in the first half of play. Kentucky defeated Western Kentucky 63-28 in this high scoring affair and is now 2-0 on the season. The biggest disappointment of the game wasn’t the lack of defensive intensity, it was the lack of television coverage. And for those that were fortunate enough to capture the game on EPSN gameplan, they had their share of frustrations with technical difficulties. [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
At halftime, coach Joker Phillips said he was happy with the defensive play although in the first two games they have given up big run plays for touchdowns. Tonight it didn’t matter as the Wildcats went into halftime with a 42-14 lead. After halftime the Wildcats looked to march down the field but came to a quick halt when their second problem struck. Special Teams missing on yet another scoring chance with a missed field goal.
Similarly to their first game, the Wildcats have to go back to work this week on the practice field and improve on defensive pressure and special teams. They did seem to correct the penalty problem they had in game one. Their next game, and final non-conference game, is next Saturday against Akron at 7:00pm.
