Kentucky’s Doron Lamb set a freshman scoring record with 32 points and Kentucky destroyed Winthrop 89-52 in a rare midday game.
Lamb was 11-12 from the field and 7-8 from the 3-point line on the way to passing Jamal Mashburn’s freshman record of 31 points.
Brandon Knight added 21 points and 5 rebounds for the Wildcats.
Matt Morgan led the way for Winthrop (5-7) with 18 points and 7 rebounds.
Kentucky (9-2) was 33-63 (52.4%) from the field and 12-22 (54.5%) from long range. The Wildcats also shot 11-13 (84.6%) from the free throw line.
UK opened up a comfortable first half lead, only to see the Eagles cut it down to 9 at 41-32. The Wildcats immediately answered by closing out the half on the 10-0 run to lead 51-32 at the break.
The game was never seriously in doubt in the second half as Kentucky cruised to a pre-holiday win.
Kentucky returns to action on December 28 against Coppin State. The game will be a 7:00 p.m. game at Rupp Arena.
