Memphis Southwind High School’s Jujuan Johnson (2013) played in a substate tournament in Tennessee this past weekend. Johnson was pleased with the outcome over the weekend.
“We won it all and we now move on to state in two weeks. I thought I did pretty good over the weekend. I didn’t get to play a ton, though, because we had a lot of blowout wins.”
Johnson confirmed he is currently receiving interest from Kentucky, albeit not very much.
“Coach Cal has showed me some interest. I would say it’s low or medium interest. I get a call from them about every two months or so.”
While Kentucky’s interest in Johnson may be low at this point, UK is a program that grabs his attention.
“I am very interested. I like the way they get up in down floor and play at a fast pace.”
The 6’3″, 180-pound shooting guard is flying under the under-the-radar so far in his recruitment, but he is still receiving serious interest from several highly respected programs, including offers from Cincinnati and Wake Forest.
“Tennessee, Memphis, Cincinnati, Marquette, Auburn, Louisville, Alabama, UCF, Kentucky State, OSU, Florida, Arkansas, Texas, and Wake Forest have been recruiting me the heaviest. I have also been receiving a little interest from Kentucky and Georgetown.”
Johnson’s stock has continued to rise during his junior year. He is long, athletic, and has a solid jumper. He is averaging just over 18 points per game with his AAU team, the Bluff City Legends.
Although he is only a three-star prospect via Scout and Rivals, Evan Daniels of Scout predicts his rating will significantly rise when the new rankings come out in two weeks.
