2012 recruit Perry Ellis a two-time Gatorade player of the year in Kansas who has already scored over 1,000 points and won two state championships, is on campus this weekend to take his second look at the University of Kentucky, but his first at Rupp Arena.
Ellis and his family, visited UK back on July 4th, 2009, on their way back to Wichita, Kan., from Memphis where Ellis’ sister plays for the Tigers. “There was something going on and we couldn’t get inside,” his mother, Fonda, said.

That won’t be a problem this time as the family made the 12 hour drive from Wichita, Kan. to Lexington on Thursday and will be in Rupp tonight when Kentucky opens their season against East Tennessee State.
“I told (assistant) coach (Orlando) Antigua we would be interested in talking to academic advisors and meeting with some academic folks,” Fonda Ellis said.
“We are really looking forward to the visit. It is fun to get to know the program better and talk more to the coaches and see what they have to offer. It will be a great experience.”
His current list of schools is a “Who’s Who” of national basketball powerhouses. North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis and Arizona to name a few.
Kentucky has officially offered a scholarship to the 6-8 Power forward out of Wichita Heights. Several reports have had Ellis leaning to various team. Fonda Ellis says none of the reports have been accurate.
“He is trying to narrow his list down by the time his season starts. We haven’t talked about what date to actually cut the list down, but he wants to do it before his season starts. He is trying to get in as many visits as he can to help make the right decisions.”
When asked what they are looking for out of Kentucky?
“I like to see how players and coaches interact with each other. If a player does something wrong, what does the coach do and how does a player react,” Fonda Ellis said
Ellis is a strong, physical and very mobile power forward. His ability to face and score on the block makes him a match up problem for less mobile post players. He rebounds in his area on both ends and is a capable physical low post defender. As his skills and intensity improve so will his production.
If you happen to be at the game tonight, be sure and give a shout out to Perry. Maybe the Nation can get in unison with a Perry, Perry, Perry chant.
