About the same time John Calipari contacted current sophomore Chris Walker, he also reached out to another youngster. He goes by the name of Isaiah Lewis.
Lewis is native to Brooklyn, New York and currently attends Christ the King High School, a New York-area powerhouse this season.
The 6’3″ sophomore is one of the top combo guards in the Class of 2013, obvious with the interest of Kentucky, along with others.
However, he knows a fan’s perspective on Kentucky basketball and Coach Calipari.
“I like (Kentucky) a lot. It’s a winning program, and I think Coach Calipari does a great job getting his players ready for the next level,” he praised. “They have a great fan base,” he added.
Even players at a younger age can appreciate what Calipari has done during his tenure in Lexington.
It also helps his interest in the ‘Cats a little bit.
“(Kentucky) is definitely in my top six.”
North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Villanova, Florida, and Arizona join Kentucky as Lewis’ six favorites right now.
However, he has not counted out any others to this point.
“I still have a list of other schools, but these are just my favorites right now.
When asked about who was going after him the hardest, he responded with this:
“It’s not just one school for me. Arizona, Georgia Tech, Villanova, Florida, UCLA, and now Kentucky are looking at me the hardest.
As shown, he is a hot commodity among a lot of top Division-1 programs.
But it looks good for Kentucky early, especially since they have not been in contact with Lewis as much as the others listed.
Lewis has yet to visit the Kentucky campus, but he expects that to change soon.
“I have not taken any visits to Kentucky, but I do plan on doing so in the upcoming months,” he assured.
Kentucky fans will be highly anticipating his arrival.
Can you imagine Isaiah Lewis teaming up with Chris Walker, along with others in the 2014 season?
I’d say it’s highly possible.
Check this video interview on him. It is a little old, but he does have some nice words about Kentucky and the style of play (about the 1:20 mark).
