Kentucky Commit Jacob Hyde Excited to be a Wildcat

Kentucky commit Jacob Hyde is finishing up his junior year at Clayton County High School in Manchester, Kentucky. With the year coming to an end, Hyde reflected on his football season, which he found to be a disappointment.

“I would say the season went okay,” said Hyde. “For myself, I thought I had a pretty good year. As for my team, we didn’t have the season we were hoping for. We finished at 1-10.”

Hyde is looking forward to his final season now, where he has much higher expectations.

“To be honest, it should be a lot better. I can tell all of the kids we have returning have a great work ethic and want to improve. I think we will be pretty good.”

Hyde is Kentucky’s only commit so far in the 2013 class, where he will be playing defensive tackle. He explained why he chose the Wildcats.

“Going to Kentucky to play football has been a dream of mine my entire life, so I’m really excited to fulfill my dream of being a Wildcat. Plus, why would I not want to play for UK?”

To argue Hyde’s comment of why he shouldn’t play for Kentucky, many would argue Kentucky is not a strong football program. Hyde doesn’t buy that.

“I laugh at people who say they are a bad program. They certainly have the things there to build a strong program, and I think they will continue to grow and build a great program.”

Hyde has started to build a strong relationship with current Kentucky players and thinks very highly of them.

“I talk to a lot of the players when visiting Kentucky’s campus. I love them; they are like family now. I am the closest with the defensive lineman. They are great guys.”

He also talks frequently with Coach Nord and Coach Turner and believes they will help him become the best player he can be.

“They will get you to your highest potential. They can get the best out of their players and they just treat every player as one of their own.”

The three-star tackle has a big frame at 6’-2”, 313 pounds. He is very strong and blessed with great quickness for his size. He also added, “I have a great knowledge for the game and I am good at reading the offense and what play may be coming.”

His game is not perfect, though. What are some things he wants to improve on before he reaches the collegiate level?

”I would like to continue to improve my side to side movement. Besides that, nothing significant—just some little things.”

Hyde has some reassuring words for Kentucky fans.

“I’m 100% committed to Kentucky. I can’t wait to get on the field as a Wildcat. I definitely won’t be looking anywhere else.”
