Earlier this week we asked if Josh Harrellson could play the best basketball of his career. Last night, he showed us that he was up to the challenge. At least for a second time. The Wildcats ran the floor for 40 minutes with the Washington Huskies in the Maui Invitational and Josh played, well, spectacularly in my opinion. He had a career high in rebounding against Portland last week and he did it again last night against the Huskies grabbing 14 boards.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]Last night he also added some offense. Harrellson scored 9 points including a critical 3 pointer in the second half that seemed to provide some spark to the rest of the team. I was also impressed with his conditioning being able to run up and down the floor for 34 of the 40 minutes. And I think he could have done more.
The areas for Josh to improve on after last nights game are being more aggressive in the paint offensively, shutting down the opponents drive defensively and trying to get to the free throw line. There were instances when Josh seemed like he couldn’t hang on to the basketball. If he can show that he can handle the tough passes I think the team, and Calipari, would be more willing to get him the ball in the post.
Tonight should be good. It’s almost game time and the Wildcats UCONN in the final game of the Maui Invitational. As I stated before, Josh will need to continue to have career games for us to continue to win. He is trying to answer the question, can Josh play the best ball of his career. Will we get the answer again tonight?
