After a first half that was a roller coaster ride for Cat fans, Terrence Jones took over in the 2nd half and led the Cats to a 72-58 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Jones was 9-18 from the field and had 27 points and 17 rebounds as he had what Jimmy Dykes said was the 2nd best individual performance in the nation this year, behind UConn’s Kemba Walker. Jones was doing everything, hitting free throws(7-10), and even hitting two from behind the arc(2-5). Brandon Knight didn’t do too shabby himself, scoring 20 on 7-17 from the field and dishing out 5 assists on only 2 turnovers.
This was a great win for the Cats, and there were times in the first half that Notre Dame looked like they could pull away, but the young cats led by Jones and Knight battled back to tie it up at the half 40-40.
Notre Dame started the second half cold as ice and the Cats made them pay jumping out to a quick 6 point lead and seemed like they never looked back. There were a lot of positives in this game, especially underneath the basket. The Cats outrebounded the Irish 40-33 and played impeccable defense throughout the contest.
