In the 2010 Season, Kentucky finished next to last in the SEC East and third from the bottom overall, just ahead of a 1-7 Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. Shame to think that the one win Ole Miss had in the SEC was from a UK visit.
In the category of Coach pay, that win and loss record is in conjunction with where Coach Joker Phillips salary lands among Head Coach’s in the SEC.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]Nick Saban is at the top of the list with a comfy $5,997,349 annual salary. Newly hired Will Muchamp moves into the fifth spot at $2,700,000. Jokers current contract is set at $1,706,600.
The only Coach Joker is ahead of is Mississppi States Dan Mullens. Mullens package pays him $1,208,295 annually.
Don’t get me wrong, these salaries are exceptional. How many of you would like to gross $1.7 million, much less the staggering $5.997 million of Saban?
The point is one of commitment to a program. For the Cats to win, Kentucky is going to have to pay for it, both in facilities and in the Coaching staff. The football program continues to net more revenue for the program then any other sport, including Basketball.
Kentucky is, and probably always will be, a basketball school first and foremost, and they prove it with their commitment to exactly what we discussed about football, facilities and Coaching. Kentucky could argue that they are tops in both, the facilities for the athletes and the Coaching staff.
For the Football program to consistently compete in the toughest conference in America, Kentucky will have to be willing to make the same commitment to the gridiron.
Until next time, Go Cats!!!
