Coach Joker Phillips confirmed that Gene McCaskill (torn acl) is done for the year.
McCaskill was the third on the depth chart, behind Cobb and Matthews. The 6-0, 190lb Wide Receiver was a major part of the Cats 2010 Offensive attack.
Randall Cobb stated that “McCaskill made several big plays in spring and fall”. He was one of the most experienced on the team, playing in 25 games and starting ten in his first two years.

Kentucky has several options to fill the void. Names Joker & Sanders mention of who could step up: Brian Adams, Aaron Boyd, E. J. Fields and obviously La’Rod King, who was already in the mix.
His most likely replacement, King, had a solid Freshman year and gained playing time as the year progressed. Overall, he accumulated 142 yards on 10 catches with one of the key catches of the game against Georgia where he snagged a one handed 21 yard touchdown that brought Kentucky within seven and helped complete the come back in a 34-27 victory.
Last year, McCaskill played in all 13 games, started 6 and caught 17 passes for 163 yards. His big game came against EKU where he caught 4 passes for 33 yards and had a kick off return for 29 more.
“He (McCaskill) gave you a different element,” Phillips said. “He was a little bit quicker than those big guys because he was a little smaller. He has been very dependable around here and started in the Liberty Bowl as a true freshman. He knows what to do. That is the thing he is able to do is play faster than some of those other guys. He knows what is going on because he has so many reps around here.”
McCaskill has a red shirt available and will use it for the 2010 year leaving him with two full years of eligibility.
Go Cats!!
