Jerry Tipton Questions UK’s Interaction with Larry Brown

Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald-Leader wonders if Kentucky has committed an NCAA violation because of Larry Brown

Tipton quotes senior Josh Harrellson as saying that Brown has participated in practice but that is denied by UK spokesman DeWayne Peevy. According to Tipton, that type of interaction between Brown and Kentucky players would be a violation of NCAA rules.

Here is an excerpt:
“He’ll even stop drills like Coach Cal does and put his imput in,” Harrellson said. ‘It’s great having a legendary coach here buiding us and helping us out.”

UK Coach John Calipari, who considers Brown a friend and mentor, said he invited players to seek advice from Brown about how to improve.

“Not a bad deal,” Calipari said. “He’s a Hall of Famer.”

UK spokesman DeWayne Peevy said that Harrellson was mistaken.

“It didn’t happen,” Peevy said. ” I have no idea what Josh is talking about.”
Tipton includes the exact NCAA bylaw that (11.7.1.1.1.4 in case you were wondering) deals with the use of outside consultants.
