Jeff Boehm: Renaissance Man

I had a chance to speak with 2011 baseball commit Jeff Boehm about his recruitment. He hails from Mt. Carmel HS near Chicago. Jeff pitches lefty and plays first base and outfield too, so I asked what he was being recruited to UK as. He said mainly outfield, but he was told that he should be ready play whatever was needed (coach Bohannon handled his recruitment, as usual).

Boehm had interest from Coastal Carolina, Illinois State and Louisville before committing to Kentucky. In fact he said Louisville was his first offer. I asked why he chose the Cats and he said because of the competition level in the SEC.

When he’s not playing baseball, Jeff likes to eat (Mexican and Chicken). He does have a part-time job as a busboy in a country club (lucky… the only busboy job I ever had was at Cracker Barrel). Aside from that he said he enjoys hanging out with friends.

One thing to watch for if Kentucky ever plays Illinois: one of Jeff’s teammates and a good friend for 11 years (John Kravetz) is going there on scholarship. I asked Jeff if it would be weird to play against his former teammate and he said “yeah… I would love to face him though…”

Boehm finished his senior year with hitting stats of .391 BA, 6 HRs and 32 RBI. His pitching stats were 38 strikeouts and 18 walks in 23 innings (3.65 ERA) – and a 91 mph fastball. He was chosen for the Catholic League All-Star team which defeated the Public League All-Star team, and was a Rawlings 3rd Team All-American. Boehm was ranked #104 in the nation by PerfectGame.

Big thanks to Jeff for the interview, I look forward to seeing him at Cliff Hagan Stadium next year.
