I read a reference yesterday about Kentucky being interested in 5-star 2013 SF Troy Williams from Phoebus HS in Hampton, VA. But after some Googling and waiting for other word to come out, I found nothing. This morning the buzz is on.
You may not know the name Troy Willliams, but most basketball fans are familiar with his uncle Boo (as in “Boo Williams”, which is also the AAU team Troy plays on). Uncle Boo also played for Phoebus HS, and had his number (#5) retired there. So when Troy asked Boo if he minded the younger Williams sporting #5, his positive reply was followed with a caveat: ”If you play bad, I’ll take the jersey back.”(source)
That shouldn’t be a concern, Troy is lighting up the AAU circuit and already has offers from Florida, Georgetown, South Florida, Texas, Virginia and Virginia Tech as well as interest from DePaul, Kentucky, North Carolina and USC. In fact, Uncle Boo says that “John Calipari is aggressively pursuing Troy.” (source) The younger Williams is ranked #6 in his class by ESPN, #9 by both Scout and Maxpreps, #15 by rivals and #17 by 247sports (PrepStar).
Here’s some video of Troy from the good folks at MeetMe@TheRim earlier this year.
