I got a chance to speak to 2011 Kentucky recruit Stan Simpson who plays at John A. Logan Junior College in Carterville, Illinois. Simpson played at Illinois the previous two years.
Simpson has been tweeted about a lot lately in reference to Kentucky being interested in the 6’10” center.
Simpson is averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds for John A. Logan, who has a 9-6 overall record.
One of the first questions i asked was his list of schools. He listed Kentucky, Memphis, Gonzaga, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, Cincinnati, and West Virgina.
He also plans on making visits after his season is over, but would take a visit to Kentucky during the season for a game if asked.
Which leads to his top 3. Stan said that 1)Kentucky 2)Memphis 3)Gonzaga were his top schools in order.
I then asked him who has been recruiting him from Kentucky. Stan said that Kenny Payne was his contact with UK.
Simpson also said there is a possibility someone from Kentucky will be at his game next Wednesday, but nothing has been confirmed.
Simpson also said he loved the basketball atmosphere and loves the style of play Coach Cal has at Kentucky.
Looks like Kentucky is searching for a big..I wonder how many spots Cal will have open by next season. I am sure there will be a couple of surprises along the way.
