Coach Matthew Mitchell and his women’s Kentucky Wildcats got back on the court yesterday after a long off season. On Sunday the UK Hoops team played Kentucky Wesleyan College in an exhibition game, one that was needed to get back into the groove. And they found their groove by the end of the game finishing off the Panthers with a final score of 99-55.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
“It was good day for us to get back into Memorial, with a crowd and officials, in a game situation,” UK Hoops Coach Matthew Mitchell said. “We haven’t had a team yet that was a finished product in an exhibition game and we still haven’t and I don’t think you ever will have a team that is completely ready to go for that first day. (There is) certainly a lot to work on, but a lot of bright spots, too. Overall, my impression leaving the game is I’m pretty upbeat about this one.”
Let’s take a look at the boxscore:

[*]Dunlap picks up where she left off getting a double-double. 20 points and 10 rebouds.
[*]The game was a little closer in the first half than the final score indicated. UK Hoops just wore them down in the second part of the game.
[*]Coach Mitchell was pleased overall with the team performance.
[*]The press is what got the Wildcats on a good run in the second half.
[/LIST]“I was just happy with the energy and the press that got that run going,” Mitchell said. “Certainly, the coach in me knows you can’t rely on the press like that all the time and you’re not going to have a lot of runs like that with the competition we play. But I was pleased with the energy, and they did have to expend the energy to get it done. They played hard during that spurt so that was a positive.”
