Hunter Bowles is the Definition of Patience

Patience is a great and impressive virtue to have. Many want it, few have it.

However, for a Glasgow High School football player, patience defines his recruitment thus far.

Hunter Bowles (Class of 2012, Glasgow HS, Kent.) is one of the top recruits in Kentucky and is being looked at by several teams, but he has yet to field an offer.

But he continues to receive letters.

“I haven’t received any offers yet, but I have got a lot of teams recruiting me: Kentucky, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Louisville, South Alabama, and Western Kentucky.”

He refuses to name one favorite, but there is a couple of schools that really stick out to him at this point in his recruitment.

“I don’t have any teams numbered, but Kentucky, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Ohio State have to be the top teams on my radar. I have no order, though,” Bowles explained.

Without having any offers right now, Bowles sees the opportunity to improve and get better even more than most recruits.

“I want to get better. I really need to work on my upper-body strength and continuing to get stronger. I play three sports, so it’s hard to stay consistent in when I lift weights,” he said. “I’d also like to get more consistent with my speed.”

It is also very rare to find an athlete being recruited by major colleges if he is a tri-sport athlete. Two sports, possibly, but hardly ever does the sports world witness something like Bowles is encountering.

He has all the rights to blame his other sports as the reason why he has yet to receive a football offer, but Bowles is just a kid enjoying the opportunities he has.

He will also be taking the opportunities he has to attend some camps this summer.

“I’m definitely going to Kentucky and Tennessee camps, and maybe I can squeeze in some with Louisville and Notre Dame.

Bowles was one of the many recruits to attend UK’s Junior Day a couple of weeks ago as well. Just like any other Kentucky visit, he enjoyed himself.

“Kentucky had a pretty cool Junior Day. I really enjoyed getting to see the other players and talking to the other coaches,” he praised.

He also seems to have a pretty good relationship with the coaches at Kentucky.

“I think we’re really building good relationships. I talk to Chuck Smith a good bit, and it helps that he is good friends with my high school coach.”

He also has an ironic story involving Joker Phillips.

“When Coach Phillips was working on his student-coaching degree, he and my dad were in the same dorm. Now they talk to each other likes they’re best friends. It’s really cool.”

Bowles’ father was a member of the Wildcat baseball team during his tenure at Kentucky, thus making the school even more impressive to the junior.

“With my mom and dad both going there, it makes me want to attend school there. It’s always been a dream to go to UK. Growing up in western Kentucky, it’s either WKU or UK. Right now, it’s reality for me. But, ultimately, it’s going to be where I feel the most comfortable.”

It’s no secret that he is very fond of Kentucky though.

“Kentucky is definitely one of my favorite schools. They would have to be in my top three teams.”

Maybe we will see Bowles getting that Kentucky offer soon.

Nevertheless, he is still being patient with his situation.
