You know, this sounds like something Kentucky would be accused of. Thank goodness it happened to Washington instead (Lorenzo Romar has got to hate Kentucky).
Five-star 2011 Point Guard Tony Wroten Jr. evidently has to take a remedial Spanish class (total class size: 3) because he took one that didn’t exist. That’s right, he is listed as taking two years of a foreign language (a requirement for admission to Washington). Evidently athletic director Jim Valiere (who has since been fired) thought he would teach Wroten and another athlete Spanish via “independent study” – which amounted to an occasional question in the hall according to the students.
For the record, Wroten did nothing wrong (neither did Washington), and Wroten is working to make up the class. The AD responsible has been fired and all seems well with the world, I just wonder how many scholarships would have been lost had this happened to a Kentucky commit.
