Forget The Ratings – Gary Parrish Says Gilchrist Still No. 1

The 2011 Class is on the verge of being one of, if not, the greatest recruiting class ever at UK. The Class already consists of three top ten players, no matter what rankings you look at, and four top 25 players and Calipari is still searching.

For months, Kentucky commit Michael Gilchrist was at the top of the rankings at both Scout and Rivals. The newest rankings moved Gilchrist to No. 3 on Rival and No. 5 on Scout’s Big Boards.

Gary Parrish, Senior Writer for CBSSports.com doesn’t feel the same as the experts… he says Gilchrist is still tops.

I don’t know that he’ll be the best pro of the group, but I just love everything about him — his versatility, how consistently hard he plays, the way his mother has raised him to be a humble, well-rounded young man.

It’s impossible to not root for the kid (unless you’re a Louisville fan, of course). So if forced to choose, I guess I would pick Gilchrist. But I freely admit some of my opinion is based on me liking what he and his mother stand for and wanting to reward them (as opposed to punish them) for shutting down a ridiculous travel schedule before the end of the July recruiting period so that Gilchrist could — you’re not going to believe this — be a “normal” kid.
Gary went on to provide his list of the Top 5 Players in the Class of 2011:

Either way, let me give you a full top five (in alphabetical order):

• Anthony Davis (Kentucky)
• Mike Gilchrist (Kentucky)
• Quincy Miller (uncommitted)
• Austin Rivers (uncommitted)
• Adonis Thomas (uncommitted)
As a Cat fan (and if you’re not, thanks for visiting anyway), you have to love the trend beside the top prospects names…

Gary also provided his opinion of where he believes the other three will land.

Miller – Louisville
Rivers – Duke
Thomas – Memphis

I agree with Miller and Thomas, but don’t give up yet on Rivers. I know he hasn’t scheduled a visit to UK and it appears the Big Blue Madness trip he scheduled earlier is now out the door, but I’m still hanging a hat that Rivers could end up at Kentucky.

If I’m correct I’ll mention this again. If not, let’s forget it ever happened.
