Florida Lineman Showing Interest in Kentucky

Blake Fromang is a 6’8″, 280-pound offensive tackle from Orlando, Florida. He attends Lake Highland Preparatory School and reflected on how his junior season went.

“We had a winning season. The team we lost to in the second round of playoffs, their whole defensive line is D-1. The guy I went against will be going to Notre Dame–Aaron Lynch. So they were pretty good.

“Individually, I feel like I had a great season. I hit a growth spurt over the summer, worked out, and got stronger, which helped me have a successful season.”

Due to such a successful season, Fromang has gained interest from the Kentucky staff. Special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Greg Nord started recruiting Fromang and has gained a positive vibe so far.

“I don’t know what he is like as a coach, because anyone can be nice to you, but it’s different during practice. But for a first impression, I think he is really cool.”

Fromang also stated that Kentucky seems really interested in him. But, how interested is he in Kentucky?

“I grew up with parents that were [Florida] Gator fans, so I am very familiar with the SEC and Kentucky is a familiar name. I have seen Florida and Kentucky play, but I haven’t visited yet, so I don’t know much about Kentucky. I am excited to up there and visit, though.”

Fromang has great height for a lineman at 6’8″. However, he may need to gain a little more weight with such a large body frame. His talents aren’t too shabby either. Fromang shared what he considers to be several of his strengths.

“My pass blocking is really good. I am pretty quick out of my stance; I can get to linebackers well; and on a pass, I am good at recognizing a blitz.”

Fromang knows he still has things to work on. He also shared some aspects of his game he struggles with.

“Staying low at times, getting better with my hands, and sometimes on run blocking I mess up my footwork.”

Fromang will take a visit to Kentucky on June 23. When he visits, there will be certain things he will evaluate about the football program and college.

“I want to have a good feeling with the coaches–that is very important to me. Second thing I am looking for is location–like is is a place I want to be around. Third is academics. And last, I just want to feel welcome.”

The Kentucky visit is one of many in just an eight-day span. Starting June 17, Fromang will visit Virginia, NC State on the 18th, Cincinnati on the 21th, Louisville on the 22nd, Kentucky on the 23rd, and Vanderbilt on the 24th. He will then evaluate the visits and start his decision process.

“After these visits, I am going to start narrowing down the schools over the summer and make a list.”
