When you think of the name Marcus Allen you think of the Hall-of-Fame former Raiders running back. But there is a new Marcus Allen (no relation) on the gridiron.
Hillard, Florida has not had the uprising athlete on the football field for long. However, despite the fact of only playing one year of football, Allen has gained over twenty offers, including the ‘Cats. The Florida native is looking for a school where he can gain help for life after football.
“Kentucky presents a lot of the same qualities that they (Tennessee) offer me. They have told me I gain a lot of playing time due to the lack of depth at the linebacker position. I believe this will be very beneficial for me because I’ve only played for one year. They give me something for life after football.”
Many people would find it hard to believe that such a ‘newby’ at the game of football has gained so many coaches notice. However, the Hillard, (FL) native shows great versatility with having the ability to play at multiple positions.
“I’m comfortable at running back and linebacker. But linebacker is the position that Kentucky, as well as a lot of other schools, are recruiting me at.”
Where do the Wildcats sit with Allen?
“Tennessee is at the top of list, but Arkansas and Kentucky are up there with them.”
Allen said he is planning a trip to see the Vols, Commodores, Kentucky, Duke, and Louisville June 9-12.
Even though his list is trimmed down, Allen does not want to rush into a decision any time soon.
“I’m not going to make a decision any time soon. I would like to know all of options and feel comfortable with a decision first.”
With no visit to Lexington so far, Allen still spoke highly of the Kentucky staff.
“Coach (Chuck) Smith is a very genuine person. I like the way he is recruiting me.”
With less experience, you have to think that Allen has a great chance to be a big time player one day when he get even more experience.
Allen has now added his 22nd offer today from the Marshall Thundering Herd.
