Final Four: The Unlikelys?

It probably hasn’t settled in for all of you yet. The Kentucky Wildcats are going to Houston to play in the 2010-2011 NCAA Tournament Final Four. Man that sounds good doesn’t it? It hasn’t been an easy trip with a last second shot against Princeton, a revenge game against West Virgina, the overall top seed Ohio State and now the number two seeded North Carolina Tarheels. Congratulations and GO BIG BLUE!

Throughout the year the Wildcats had some struggles; some tough losses that might have left some fans questioning how far the season might go. Especially considering that they couldn’t get a win on the road.

But here they are, the Wildcats are in the Final Four. It feels great! But I have one question and I’d like for you to think about it before you answer. Did you ever think that this year’s team would be in the Final Four? Not many other people did. On Friday everyone was talking about Ohio State being the pick. Today, it was North Carolina. But what about you?

It’s not a question of commitment or pride. It’s not to take away from what this team and Coach Cal have accomplished. I am proud, you are proud and had we been in the N.I.T. we’d still be cheering. But I am wondering is this is the year of The Unlikelys? At the beginning of March, did you expect the Wildcats to be here?

For me, I never expected this. It is a wonderful surprise and makes me that much more proud of the team. I am thankful they are in the Final Four and look forward to seeing them play next week!

Again, Congratulations to all the Wildcats and good luck next weekend!
