Enes Kanter Eligibility Update – III

A lot of people were hoping that the NCAA would give a little last night and let Enes Kanter participate in the 2010-2011 opening ceremonies better known as Big Blue Madness. That wasn’t the case. Although Enes was able to be introduced, and did it in fine UnderKanter style I must add, there was no warm-ups and no playing during the scrimmage. And so, it seems we should get used to the NCAA silence for at least a little longer.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Coach Cal said during the broadcast on Fox Sports South that the NCAA is going to take their time because a huge precedence will be set with this ruling. It will set the stage for a lot of young European basketball players, who like Kanter, have played with a professional team as an amateur. If the ruling is unfavorable for Kanter then you can expect a lot of young men overseas to not consider coming to the states to play ball and earn their degree.

The NCAA should also take their time for Kanter’s benefit I suppose. There is no reason to rush through the process at this point. Rushing would increase the likelihood that something critical could be missed, something that could tarnish Enes as a player and Kentucky as a program.

As anxious as Kentucky fans are to see Enes play, we would all be terribly upset if a favorable ruling was made and then wins were erased at the seasons end due to an oversight. I’m not saying that Enes isn’t an amateur, I’m just saying that Coach Cal is right in saying the NCAA should take their time and get it right.

In the meantime, enjoy the best video of the Big Blue Madness intro, Enes the UnderKanter.
