Turkish phenom Enes Kanter is already raising eye brows and he hasn’t even been seen in a Wildcats uniform yet. He is projected as a top 3 draft pick already and former players say that he could produce “DeMarcus like numbers” this year. We can’t jump the gun though, there are still some obstacles to cross. First was his academic eligibility. That can be marked off the list as UK spokesman DeWayne Peevy has said that he is cleared academically. What everyone is waiting on is the NCAA to clear him as an amateur which stems from his professional career in Turkey. It is widely thought that this won’t be a problem as Kanter never received any money for playing.
The problem could be with the timing of the ruling from the NCAA which is expected to allow him to be eligible. If the decision is not made in time, Kanter may not be able to play in the 3 exhibition games slated for later this month in Windsor, Canada.
My fingers are crossed; I am hoping to see the big man in action in a couple of weeks!
