At the start of the day, Kentucky basketball had two looming questions, will Eloy Vargas and Enes Kanter be cleared to play during the 2010-11 season?
The program put one question to bed on Friday with the announcement that 6-11, 225lb Big Man Eloy Vargas, has been cleared to participate in the upcoming season at Kentucky.

Eloy successfully completed required work on his degree at Miami-Dade Community College, enabling him to gain the academic eligibility required to participate at UK.
With Vargas eligible, it’s just a waiting game for an answer from the NCAA on Enes Kanter. Kanter has been academically cleared, but is still waiting on clearance pertaining to his time with a professional team in Turkey.
The question is one of payment, was Kanter paid only for expenses or was he given a salary of any kind. Proof of that may be difficult as it seems the only ones who would have that information would be Kanter’s former team in Turkey and why would they want to promote potentially losing an Elite talent.
I’m not sure how the NCAA, or the University, will approach the situation to clear Kanter. This seems a trust issue where the NCAA will make a decision if they trust information requested from his former team in Turkey. Of course that is, if his former team in Turkey is even willing to provide the required information.
Seems like a real mess, but for now we’ll allow the NCAA some time to complete their investigation and keep our fingers crossed on this end.
Great news is that Vargas has officially joined the fold and will be an active member of the 2010-11 version of Calipari’s Wildcats…
Go Cats!!
