Recently I’ve gotten hooked on this ‘Dual Survival’ show on the Discovery Channel. The compelling story line of the show is the two exact opposite main characters.
You have Dave, the highly disciplined hard charging former Marine, teamed up with naturalists Cody, who hasn’t wore a pair of shoes in over 20 years and always wears shorts, no matter the condition.

Both are survival experts, with the same objective in mind, survive the situation and get back to civilization. Their methods may be different, but the end result is the same, supporting each other through successes and failures and believing in an idea, even when your senses may tell you otherwise.
For the Kentucky QB situation, I hope it ends the same way, different opinions of the Big Blue Nation and possibly a football team, coming together to support a decision, whether we agree or not with the choice.
The last 24 hours was fast paced around the nation with major news breaking almost on a consistent basis. Here’s some quick notes.
Joker Phillips made it official today when he announced Mike Hartline as the offensive team leader for the 2010 season. The Senior may not be the popular choice among UK fans, but his choice should be no surprise. He brings the consistency and experience that I believe Phillips is looking for from his QB. All three QB’s had something to offer that the other two didn’t. Hartline is a Senior with the experience and game management ability, Newton has limited experience and the best set of legs, while Mossokowski seems to offer the best overall pocket talent with the ability to make the pass. In the end, Phillips took the experience. Time will tell if the decision was the best, but for now, the hope is for the Big Blue Nation to come together and support the young man who will lead the Cats as he attempts to go 3-0 against in state rival Louisville.
Newton and Mossokowski are still in competition for Hartlines back up. Phillips said the position is still up for grab. The Sophomore and red shirt Freshman will have to settle it on the practice field. The announcement from Phillips visibly shook Newton. When asked about his disappointment, Newton said, “Yeah. You come out here and you try to compete and put yourself in a position to play, and when it doesn’t work out, yeah.” The decision of who will be the No. 2 QB is a big one, not just for this year, but potentially for the 2011 season and beyond.
DeAndre Daniels ended the wild and crazy four day ride with a decision to attend a Prep School this coming year. Daniels choice had nothing to do with eligibility. Trainer Alex Parker emphasized that Daniels is going to a prep school to make sure he is physically and mentally ready for college. Family issues limited Daniels’ high school career to “one solid year” of varsity basketball, Parker said. The prep school option is not related to academics as Daniels had a 3.2 grade-point average and had met the NCAA standards for freshman eligibility. Good news, he’s back on the 2011 Big Board and still available.
It appears LeBryan Nash no longer has Kentucky in his top 3 as the Cats have been replaced by that KU school. Nash is the No. 4 player in the 2011 Class and had Kentucky in his top 3 just recently. Evan Daniel of Scout confirmed that this was not a misprint or misquote. The three final teams, as of now, is Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma State. My wish, Travis Ford at OSU…
Kent Sterling posted an obvious attack at the Big Blue Nation, stating that “What is new is that investigation stretches beyond Bill Self, Selby, KU and Frazier. It includes the basketball programs at Kentucky and Tennessee”. The situation deals with Josh Selby and his relationship with Carmello Anthony’s business manager Robert Frazier. Here’s all I have to say, big freakin deal. It appears Sterling can’t make a decision of who is or isn’t being reviewed. His initial story had North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Kansas… Just like the Bledsoe and Davis story, to me this story appears to be no story at all…
Ky Madden, a name many UK fans may not be familiar with but one of the Nation’s top 20 prospects from the 2011 Class, appears to have officially taken UK off his list of possibles.. That was a real disappointment for me. I’m from Arkansas and would love to see an Arkansan make the Kentucky team and make up for some of the embarrassment Eddie Sutton caused our beloved Cats. Oh well, we have one more shot in the 2012 Class with a young man by the name of Archie Goodwin out of Sylvan hills High School in Sherwood, AR. who, after his visit to Kentucky said, He loved it…
Cats – Cards – the guys and gals over at the Card Chronicle took a look at the 2010 season of the Louisville Cardinals and predicted the final score game by game. Give them some credit as they picked the Cats to defeat the Card 24-13 in the game for the Governors Cup and for in state recruiting rights for the next year…
Until next time, Go Cats!!!
