For the second game in a row UK Hoops used a strong defensive first half to easily beat the Northeastern Huskies 81-47.
Kentucky caused 27 first half turnovers, including 16 steals, which lead to a score of 48-14 at halftime. Northeastern finished the game with 37 turnovers.
A’dia Mathies was dominate in the first half, shooting 4-5 from the field, 2-2 from the 3, finishing the first stanza with a team leading 13 points. Things slowed down a bit for the 1st team All SEC player in the 2nd half as she ended up with 20 points for the game.
Kentucky came out of the locker room rather sluggish and uninspired, letting Northeastern close within 30(I know that sounds funny), which Coach Mitchell was not thrilled with.
Coach Mitchell spoke after the win over Jacksonville State that he was pleased that his team played the entire 40 minutes. His team did not do that tonight, so it will be interesting to see what he says about his team’s second half play.
Senior Keyla Snowden was more accurate from the 3 point line tonight, as she finished 4-8 from behind the arc finishing with 14 points.
Azia Bishop had a strong first half with 8 points and she finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Freshman Bria Goss contributed nicely as she had 11 points.
The rest of the scoring for UK was Conwright 7, Evans 7, Henderson 4, Smith 2, Pinkett 2, Drake 2
Kentucky will play Saturday vs. Southern Mississippi at Memorial Coliseum. Gametime is 3pm.
