The news has broke of Royce White possibly becoming a Cat soon. The thing I am most interested with White is how his situation with Minnesota ended. White was allegedly involved in a couple of situations involving the authorities while at Minnesota. The Star Tribune had an article that spoke of all of White’s troubles in November 2009. Here are quotes from that story.

White’s latest trouble culminated on Oct. 13, when he was arrested by Bloomington police.
White is scheduled to go to court Tuesday in Bloomington for the shoplifting and assault charges stemming from that Mall of America incident.
He’s accused of stealing $100 worth of merchandise from Macy’s and pushing a security guard to the ground two times, according to a report from Bloomington police.
White received citations for that incident.

Both of these incidents look very negative towards the character of Royce White. White also had trouble before he went to Minnesota. He had grade issues in high school, which I really don’t think we need anymore of.

This is not the first incident for White either, who was expelled from De La Salle High School in Minneapolis last year for academic misconduct. Specifically, White cheated on a test, which as we all know, happens all the time in high school. But when caught and confronted by his teacher about the cheating, he probably put the last nail in his own coffin when he responded with a number of profanities directed at the teacher.

Now I am sure Coach Cal would love to add another 5 star talent to an already overwhelming recruiting class this year, but is this the personality we need on campus ? Kentucky Basketball players are looked upon as role models to all the fans in the Big Blue Nation. Is Royce White a role model? I know Cal believes in giving second chances, but this looks like White’s 4th chance to me.
A lot of people wondered about Coach Cal’s recruiting and his thoughts on no one being untouchable or that there was someone he couldn’t get. Maybe there is a time to sit back and think about something other than basketball. Royce White might deserve another chance, but does it have to be at the University of Kentucky? If he does indeed come to Kentucky I will support him to the fullest just as anyone that has put on the uniform. I just don’t think it would be the best PR move for a coach who gets investigated for going to the restroom the wrong way.
