LSU is pretty good at football and baseball. Basketball, not so much. Although they did try to hit the Cats physically with everything including the kitchen sink. This must be a new philosophy in today’s game. If you are completely outclassed and outmatched, just go around pushing and pulling every person on the court. Aside from LSU embarrassing themselves with flagrant 2 fouls, UK did play a fantastic game on the road in the SEC.
The star of the game for Kentucky was Terrence Jones. This was easily his best game of the season. Even though first shot that was an airball, you could tell he wanted to be the go to guy for the cats. He played smart, physical and had much intensity. Jones finished with 27 points on 10-17 shooting and had 11 rebounds. When Jones is hitting jump shots, it opens up the floor for his penetration and playmaking skills, which essentially makes UK unguardable.
Anthony Davis won the most durable player ever award today. He was thrown down to the ground by Mr. Kentucky Anthony Hickey in the 1st half and that caused Davis to sit out after his shoulder, neck and head were injured. It looked like Davis was done for the day, judging by the way he was wincing when he lifted his arm. Alas, all was ok when he checked back in then blocked O’bryant on a dunk attempt. In the 2nd half, he was thrown to the ground yet again this time by Malcom White. This one however was noticed by the refs and White was ejected from the game, but no one really noticed…because he’s a terrible basketball player. Davis finished with 16 points going 6-6 from the field, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks and 5 concussions. He is a tough, tough kid.
When Davis went out in the first half, LSU cut it the lead to 1 point. It looked like the cats were reeling, but Marquis Teague nailed a straight away 3 and a play later Darius Miller hit a 3 and UK never looked back. Teague finished with 6 points, both 3’s, 4 assists and only 1 turnover. Miller played well in Baton Rouge and had 13 points for the cats.
Cats played well and will need multiple ice packs after this one. UK beats LSU 74-50. Cats play Tennessee at Lexington on Tuesday. Until then.
