Kentucky 2011 recruit, DeAndre Daniels has been the hot name in recruiting, over the last month or so, as news broke that he was looking to forgo his Spring Semester at IMG Academy and enroll immediately at the University of his choice.
His plan, utilize a scholarship and the Spring semester to get prepared to play starting next season. A plan that would have benefited both DeAndre and his school of choice.
Most thought that the three schools he would choose from was Texas, who he was once committed to before withdrawing his commitment last Summer, Kansas, who most thought was the front runner and Kentucky, who was rumored to have withdrawn their scholarship offer.
Daniels, the number 9 ranked player in the Class of 2011 and the number 3 at his position of small forward, dragged his decision along with almost every rumor pointing him to Kansas.
In the end, DeAndre has decided to stay right where he is, at IMG Academy. Here are a some excerpts from Adam Zagorias article.
When Daniels does arrive on a college campus, Borman (Daniels Coach at IMG Academy) expects him to have an immediate impact.
“He’s going to be an impact player,” Borman told ZAGSBLOG last month. ”He’s 6-8, 6-9, he weighs about 197 right now so he’s put on 17 pounds. He can score. He’s a three. So even though he’s 6-9 he’s a face-up three.
He’s a guard, he’s not a four. So he’s going to create a lot of matchup problems. He’s a tough kid, too.
“So he’s going to be an impact player, just like [St. John’s commit] Phil [Greene] will be on the next level, and immediately on the next level.”
This is twice that Daniels had everyone on edge. Back in August, he looked at possibly reclassifying and attending a school immediately. Like this decision, he decided to go to IMG Academy, staying a member of the 2011 class.
Whether Coach Calipari still has DeAndre on his list of targets or not is unknown right now. The rumor that Kentucky withdrew their scholarship grew legs, as that story developed, but no solid confirmation ever surfaced to indicate that the rumor was true.
So now we do as we have done all along with Daniels, we wait…
Go Cats!!!
