Just in case you missed it, there have been three basketball commitments in the past 24 hours or so that are (were) relevant to Kentucky. The first was Khem Birch, who I reported on yesterday and will not revisit today.

The second recruit to commit was 5-star SG Austin Rivers (#1 overall 2011). Austin is of course the son of NBA head coach Doc Rivers and hails from Winter Park, Florida. The younger Rivers had originally committed to Florida, but then reneged when he determined that [STRIKE]Florida stinks at basketball[/STRIKE] he wanted to keep his options open on such an important decision. Yesterday, Austin committed to [STRIKE]Puke[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]DOOK[/STRIKE] Duke University where he will join SG Michael Gbinije, and C’s Marshall Plumlee and Tyler Adams. Duke now has the #2 recruiting class according to ESPN.

The third recruit was Angel Nunez. Nunez is a 3-star SF (class of 2011) from New York that has been sliding down in the ratings. In fact, as of today he is not ranked by any of the major sites. Angel lost a star (is that like losing a halo or losing his wings?), dropping from a 4- to a 3-star this year. Yesterday he committed to Louisville, where he joins PF Chane Behanan, SF’s Wayne Blackshear and Ryan Taylor, and C Zach Price. Louisville now holds the #7 recruiting class according to ESPN.

All this to say that UK still has the #1 recruiting class for the [STRIKE]first[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]second[/STRIKE] third year in a row. That class of course includes 5-star PG Marquis Teague, 5-star SF Mike Gilchrist, and 5-star PF’s Anthony Davis and Kyle Wiltjer. That’s a lot of stars.
