Coach Calipari’s Comments On Loss To UCONN

I know everyone was was hoping for a Maui championship, but don’t be rattled. This team IS GOOD! They just forgot what they’d been working on for the last eight weeks.

Within the first five minutes of the game, you could tell that this was not the offense we saw in the first two games. I’m not talking about points going on the board, that was obvious. I’m referring to BALL MOVEMENT!

There was little to no ball movement on Wednesday. This was something I’ve bragged about since the exhibition games, but against UCONN, it was dribble, dribble, dribble, then drive into three athletic big men. This resulted in no opportunity to pass and you definitely won’t have an open shot.

That’s what the dribble drive is all about, right? Almost, what makes the dribble drive successful is what happens before the dribble drive. It’s the ball movement (passing) before the the drive that creates space and opens up lanes that results in easy layups or wide open team mates as the defenders rotate to help out. This did not happen on Wednesday.

Good news is.. This is all very fixable. When it’s all said and done, we’ll have a very talented team that will be tough to beat.

OK.. Enough of me ranting. Here’s what Coach Cal had to say about Wednesday’s loss..
