Several recruits have soared in the rankings in the best three months, but none have made the climb Chris Walker has amongst his peers in the Class of 2013.
Walker, a combo forward from Holmes County High School (Bonifay, Fla.), now finds himself in the elite of his class, ranked in the top five by most recruiting analysts. While he is proud to see his name out there, he doesn’t take it for granted.
“It’s nice and all, but I just have to keep putting in the work. Being from a little town and being ranked so high is crazy,” he said, amazed by his accomplishments.
But Walker doesn’t want anything just given to him. Not in the rankings, nor in college. In fact, that is one of the main reasons he likes Kentucky to this point.
“The coaches have told me they’re not just going to give me a scholarship or a starting position,” he began. “That’s something I like. I want to work for everything.”
However, that’s not the only thing he likes about UK.
“I like everything about Kentucky,” he exclaimed. “I like the fan base, the coaching staff, and the academics the school offers.”
He was also impressed by some of the players that have recently gone through Kentucky, but one stuck out in particular:
“John Wall went to Kentucky and had a good season. You can’t ignore the players. It’s all good.”
Walker has also had the opportunity to get to know the coaching staff, but most notably Orlando Antigua and John Calipari.
“I think I have a great relationship with the coaching staff. They stay in contact with me daily, and that means a lot. Coach Calipari has also been really honest with me. People don’t realize the person he is.”
The 6-foot-9 freak-athlete is also expecting some big things to go next week in Indianapolis.
“I’m really expecting to get an offer from Kentucky in Indianapolis on July 6th,” he explained. “Then I also wouldn’t mind getting up to campus for a visit in August.”
Walker is not shy about expressing Kentucky as his leader, but several teams are hot on his trail.
“Florida, Ohio State, Kansas, Baylor, Syracuse, Alabama, Florida State, Memphis, and Tennessee are other schools I’m interested in right now.”
Unfortunately for several of these respective schools, Chris Walker will only be able to represent one squad and program.
At this point, UK looks to be in good position. Expect to hear about an offer soon.
