The Calipari NBA rumors/speculation continue to run wild. Even after Calipari made a statement to let everyone know he will be coaching at UK next year, the national media is still talking it up.
Calipari made this statement on Friday via twitter and facebook…
I’ve said many times that I’ve got the best job in the country. Still the speculation runs wild and I can’t stop that… I want to address this with the Big Blue Nation one last time, I will be coaching at Kentucky next year. Now let’s finish what we started!
On Friday, Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers lost their series against the Boston Celtics. Almost immediately, the speculation about Calipari coaching in the NBA began to pick up steam. It seems Lebron’s free agency and the possibility of him playing for the Chicago Bulls, is the story book scenario that would lead Calipari to Chicago. (at least that’s what Bulls fans think).
Late Sunday night, the Chicago Tribune posted a story about a “Calipari connection” making contact with the Bulls. Here’s an excerpt….
League sources said Sunday that noted NBA power broker William Wesley continues to work back channels to sell John Calipari and James as a package deal to franchises such as the Bulls, Nets and Clippers with coaching vacancies and salary cap room.
Another league source confirmed that an unknown Calipari connection contacted Bulls management over the weekend. This not only once again renders the coach’s vows to remain at Kentucky hollow, it underscores the juggling act general manager Gar Forman and senior vice president John Paxson must navigate as they tackle a coaching search while planning for free agency, which begins July 1.
Early this morning, Calipari sent out this tweet in response to the Tribune article…
Now, do I have to respond to these rumors too?
One thing is for sure… The speculation will not end until Lebron picks his team and the head coaching spot for that team is filled.
Here’s a great discussion about this topic on ESPN’s 1st and 10 show….
