There are at least two million reasons why Cal will coach UK next year.
Page 16 of his contract, under the heading of Termination by Coach. It’s states that Cal owes UK, “Two Million Dollars if the termination occurs any time within the second year of this Agreement.”
When Cal came from Memphis, UK paid Memphis $200,000. That’s not 2 million, but if an NBA team really wanted Cal, something could be worked out.
Even though Cal tweeted to the world that he’s coaching UK next year, and you have to appreciate his honesty when he didn’t say for the rest of his contract, that won’t stop other writers from still saying that Cal could still end up in the NBA with LeBron James wherever the league MVP ends up landing next season.
Chad Ford Friday night on ESPN spoke to a few NBA general managers after Cal said he’d stay at UK.
“A couple of general managers felt strong that wherever LeBron went, he’d (Cal) be the coach.”
Ford says if Cal got the right situation where you had the money, the right players and a chance to win it all, that would be “hard to pass up.”
Cal’s tweet about staying was more for recruits than True Blue Fans.
Jerry Meyer, the National Basketball Recruiting analyst for Rivals.com, says that all signs point to Cal getting 6-11 power forward Eloy Vargas. Vargas spent one year at Florida before going to Miami-Dade Community College where he averaged 25 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks a game.
Throw in Terrence Jones and Kadeem Jack, who Cal is still recruiting. They need to know he’s going to be around.

There is always going to be the possibility of Coach Cal leaving and going to the NBA. LeBron being very close to Cal have helped the rumors grow. It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
