But it was a LOT closer than that. With less than two minutes left, it was a 3-point game and Chris Warren had the ball. Luckily a few missed 3-pointers by Ole Miss and several clutch free-throws by Brandon Knight later, the Cats advance.
The Cats and the Rebs both had 4 people in double-digits. For Kentucky it was Doron Lamb (19), Brandon Knight (17), Darius Miller (15) and Josh Harrellson (13). Miller, Liggins and Jones all had 4 fouls, and Coach Cal was substituting LIBERALLY to try and keep them in the game. Mississippi won the 3-point battle, making 8 from long range while Kentucky made only 4 (Lamb made three of those). Knight was 7 of 10 from the free-throw line, and although he had a quiet first half, he put this game away in the end. It was Doron Lamb who was scoring in a mutated Noah’s Ark (3 by 3), but it was Knight who made 6 straight free-throws to close it out.
On a side note, Chris warren needed 22 points tonight to eclipse 2,000 for his career. Thanks to DeAndre Liggins and Doron Lamb, he only got 20. The Cats face Alabama tomorrow at 1:00. GO BIG BLUE!
