No. 4 South Carolina put up five runs in the top of the sixth inning to wipe out a three-run Kentucky lead and propel themselves to a 13-9 series-opening win over the Wildcats.
South Carolina (36-9, 17-5 SEC) used four pitchers in the game with starter Blake Cooper (9-0) getting the win despite allowing a season-high seven runs.
Christian Walker led the Cocks with four-RBI’s off of three doubles. Jackie Bradley Jr. went 3-4 and scored three runs for USC.
Taylor Rogers (4-7) went 5.1 innings for Kentucky and picked up the loss.
The Wildcats (24-21, 7-15 SEC) will host the Gamecocks in game 2 of the series tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
The game will be broadcast live on the Big Blue Sports Network (radio), with the Voice of UK Baseball, Neil Price, voicing the action. Fans in Lexington can hear the game live on WLAP 630-AM and in Louisville on WKJK 1080-AM.
