Kentucky Wildcat fans have also won a championship. For the seventh consecutive season, and the 16th time in the last 17 years, Kentucky had the highest home attendance of any college basketball program in the nation in 2011-12, averaging 23,271 fans per game. Kenucky also broke a record for the most fans at all games, home, away and neutral, at 885,953. Syracuse previously held the record for its 1988-89 attendance of 855,053.

Louisville and North Carolina were the only other teams which averaged more than 20,000 fans per home game. Tennessee was second in the SEC with 16,462 per game. The NCAA says that almost 33 million people attended a college basketball game (including Divisions II and III) this season, the fifth highest total since the organization began keeping records.

If you’re looking for the basketball conference with the most fans, look in the midwest. The Big 10 had the highest average attendance at 12,868 per game, followed by the SEC with 11,513, and the Big 12 with 11, 057. The Big East and the ACC had averages of 10,881 and 9,876 respectively.
