I Demand A Re-count!! – Arkansas Powell Wins Freshman of The Week and Not Boogie

Yesterday was the first day I didn’t get to post that a UK player had won the SEC Player of The Week or Freshman of The Week awards. I think we all knew that Devan Downey had the player of the week wrapped up, but how did anyone beat out “Boogie The Beast”?

I’m guessing that the SEC just felt it needed to show some love to other players in the conference. I understand why they would want to do that, but it kind of reminds me of giving everyone a trophy at the end of the season or not keeping score in my four year old’s soccer game. It’s just awarding someone something even if they didn’t deserve it. I’m not saying that Marshawn Powell from Arkansas didn’t deserve to be recognized, but I think it’s clear that Demarcus Cousins clearly outplayed him.

If you look at their box score’s for last week, I could see where you might make an argument for Powell (I’d also say you were an Arkansas fan), until you look at points scored. Cousins scored twenty more points than Powell, and Powell only scored nine against Mississippi St. on Tuesday.

Maybe I’m missing something…… Take a look at the stats from last week and tell me if Powell has a case. I’m still scratching my head on this one.
