DeMarcus Cousins made no bones about it when he said “My goal is to win Rookie of the Year”.
The 2010 NBA Draft was a Kentucky Wildcat Infomercial as the Cats placed five players in the first round. Cousins went fifth to the Sacramento Kings and based on his play in the Summer League, should have gone second.
Entering the 2010 NBA Season, the favorite to win the coveted Eddie Gottlieb NBA Rookie of the Year Award is kentucky’s very own John Wall. Expect Boogie to have something to say about that before the season ends.

Cousins previously declared “he was the best player in the 2010 rookie class, the fifth-overall pick in the NBA Draft continued to stand by his bold proclamation”.
“My goal is to win Rookie of the Year, and I think I established myself and earned some respect in summer league,” he said. “But Tyreke (Evans) and I spoke about some of the things we want to accomplish (as a team) this year, starting with making the Playoffs.”
Boogie has worked diligently over the Summer to refine his game and prepare his body for the rigorous 82 game NBA schedule.
“The biggest thing is to continue to work on my conditioning,” he stated. “(Coach Paul Westphal) just wants me to stay in shape and be dominant, so I’m also working on my footwork and my post game. “
As a superstar at Kentucky and now in the NBA, Cousins understand the importance of being humble and giving back to the community. Recently he stopped his truck to greet a pair of Kentucky fans who were hoping to meet him and secure an autograph.
“I never even thought that (story) would come out,” Cousins said humbly. “The fans pay a lot of money to see me play, and I’ve got to give back in some kind of way.”
As a key member of the 2009-10 Kentucky Wildcats, Cousins has proven his willingness to work hard. From the court to the classroom to the media room and beyond, Boogie was a fan favorite and one that all kentucky fans will continue to follow as his talent and his NBA Career develop.
Go Cats!!!
