Craig Witherspoon, the Superintendent for Birmingham City Schools, will be meeting with the AHSAA on Monday to discuss the Eric Bledsoe allegations that was brought up in the New York Time article late last week.
It seems he’s on a fact finding mission that could lead into an investigation. That would be an investigation at the AHSAA level, NOT the NCAA. We’re all in “wait and see” mode on that one…
Here’s an excerpt…
[QUOTE]”You want to address it head on,” he said. “We don’t want any of our future or current students in jeop*ardy of not having quality athletic programs. But we are looking back*wards (in time) here. As I under*stand it, the coach is no longer there at Parker High School. The principal is no longer in place. But there are some individuals that are who will be helpful.”
AHSAA by-laws place the ulti*mate responsibility for verifying a student-athlete’s residency and academic transcript for eligibility on the high school principal.
“Hopefully these issues have al*ready been addressed going for*ward with current processes and procedures,” Witherspoon said. “But my job is to ensure that they don’t have a possibility of ever oc*curring again even from an allega*tion standpoint.”
