Big Blue Country Sports Bar & Grill will host a large outdoor pep rally and street party on Friday evening, September 3 for University of Kentucky Alumni and UK fans. The rally is being staged in anticipation of UK’s annual rivalry game versus the University of Louisville that will be played on September 4.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
The event, entitled Big Blue Invasion 2, is being modeled after the first Big Blue Invasion event that was held at Waterfront Park in 1998 attended by 10,000+ UK fans. It is being held this year in conjunction with national “College Colors Day” (www.collegecolorsday.com) where fans are encouraged to wear apparel representing their favorite college or university all day long.
Big Blue Invasion 2, endorsed by the UK Alumni Association, will be held outside in the rear parking lot of Big Blue Country, 426 Baxter Avenue, and along the 1000 block of Lexington Road that will be closed for the event. There will be food and beer available for purchase outside and a full bar and restaurant menu available inside.
“We’re excited to have this pep rally”, said Jeff Ashley, president of the Greater Louisville Chapter of the UK Alumni Association. “Louisville is loaded with UK fans and this event should give them an opportunity to show their colors and their strength in numbers in this town”.
Big Blue Invasion 2, beginning at 5:00 p.m., will feature two live bands that will provide music throughout the evening until 1:00 a.m. Cynthiana will be the opening act providing rock and roll covers and their original single: “Commonwealth” written about Kentucky. The feature band, Point1Zero, will play their upbeat party music to fire-up attendees.
The pep rally portion of the program will be at approximately 8:30 p.m. and will include UK pep music, giveaways (including tickets to the UK-UL football game) introduction of former players, and UK cheers. Marcus McClinton, former star linebacker at UK from 2004-2008, will sing “We Believe” the famous song/video that became the theme song of UK’s famous 2007 season when they defeated #1 ranked LSU.
There will be an event cover charge of $3.00. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the UK Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment Fund.
