I Tweet (follow me at WildcatRecruit1). I follow others who Tweet too, I believe you can discover a lot about someone’s personality by their Tweets. For instance, I encourage everyone to follow football coach Tee Martin (TeeMartin17). He’s not only informative about the program and the football world in general, but he tweets often and is always encouraging and inspiring. You can also follow most of the other NOB writers like Scott A. (Uknationofblue), Chip (UKBIGBLUENATION), Anthony W (awireman) and Courtney (Wildcatty11). I’m sure I’m forgetting a few, but you get the idea.
I follow four of our five 2011 recruits (to my knowledge, Marquis Teague does not have a twitter account). Mike Gilchrist (MikeGillie14), Anthony Davis (AntDavis23), Kyle Wiltjer (kwiltj) and Twany Beckham (TBeckham_24) are all enjoyable and respectable with their tweets. We should be thankful, there are those who aren’t.
I’m not going to mention any names, but there are a couple of possible recruits in future classes who I have had to quit following because their Tweets are nasty, vulgar and honestly I don’t understand half of what they say. Granted, slang has gotten even worse in the age of texting and Twitter, but what exactly does “snappin wit bwash dada chad all of dem lmao Lightning^” mean? Seriously, I graduated from college Cum Laude with a double major and I’m completely lost on this one.
But the vulgarity is only part of it. If I’m a future coach or future fan of a recruit, and I see them tweeting about having sex with somebody’s girlfriend hanging from the bar in the closet or talking about “getting paid now”, it turns me off. I don’t care how good of a player the individual is, I want Kentucky players to have character. I want Kentucky players to be able to handle themselves in front of a microphone. I want Kentucky players to be smart enough to know that the things they Tweet are NOT just between them and their 10 closest friends. Dude, seriously. #getaclue
