With Miami Hurricane head coach Frank Haith leaving for the Missouri job, several names are being floated as options for the now-vacant head-coaching position at Miami. The four names mentioned at this time are Kansas State head coach Frank Martin, Alabama head coach Anthony Grant, Central Florida head coach Donnie Jones and Kentucky assistant coach Orlando Antigua.
I would think Miami would be hard-pressed to pull a head coach from another school, and will probably be looking for an assistant, which bodes well for Antigua if he wants the job. Evidently race is also a big issue in Miami (who knew?), and minorities are preferred for this position since the only minority coach at Miami is the Men’s Tennis coach. Martin, Grant and Antigua are all minorities.
While we hate to lose good coaches, you have to be happy for Coach Antigua if this opportunity comes to fruition. It’s probably more a question of “when” than “if” for this great assistant. We would wish him all the best in his future endeavors, and maybe set up an annual game with Miami…
